Dearborn, Mich., August 12, 2019 – Our senior director of dining services, Cheryl Naftel, is no stranger to senior living communities nor to Dearborn.
Naftel has more than 17 years’ experience in senior living communities, along with a significant Dearborn connection. She was born at Oakwood Hospital, now Beaumont Hospital, Dearborn.
Two years ago, Naftel was the first winner of a regional and national industry award called “Enriching the Lives of Seniors Every Day.”
“I’ve always enjoyed working with seniors,” said Naftel. “My parents died young, so I never got to see them grow older. Now, I have lots of parents and grandparents around.”
Before working in dining services for senior communities, Naftel worked in the restaurant industry, including two well-known Chinese restaurants in metro Detroit. She and her husband also owned a bagel shop and deli in Utica for eight years.
At Beaumont Commons, Dearborn, Naftel is responsible for all food service operations on campus, including Beaumont Rehabilitation and Continuing Care. Naftel and her team prepare an estimated 500 meals daily.
When not spending up to 11 or 12 hours on campus to ensure everything is running smoothly, Naftel goes home to Hazel Park, where she and her husband have maintained their residence for 40 years.
“At the end of the day, I appreciate that he does most of the cooking at home, even though I enjoy cooking, too,” said Naftel. “He rarely wants to eat out, because he says my cooking is better.”
